Automatic Bellows for Fuji X

Any X-mount lens, up to a maximum diameter of 90mm, can be used with the bellows. The lens can be mounted either in normal or reversed position. The filter thread size is 58mm, but this can easily be adapted to other sizes by means of a stepping ring.
Lenses of 50mm focal length or longer are typically mounted normally. Wide-angle lenses provide best results - and higher magnifications - if they are mounted in reverse position.

Stepless extension

Length of bellows extension will determine the magnification. Focusing is done by moving the entire bellows assembly back and forth. Note that although autofocus is supported, it becomes redundant at macro distances and is best turned off. For use on a tripod, a focusing rack will greatly facilitate operation. Magnification can be calculated by dividing the bellows extension in mm over the focal length of the lens in mm.

Flexible system

The BAL-F bellows system is flexible, so the RETRO part of the auto bellows can be removed and other Novoflex adapters installed to enable use with enlarging lenses, film cameras, slide copiers etc.

Novoflex Bellows BALPRO 1, Bellows extension ranges from 40-192mm. A universal bellows unit that allows the use of most medium format cameras 6x7 cm and smaller, only with focal-plane shutters, as well as most 35mm system cameras(digital OR film). With the exception of the Canon EOS system, BALPOR 1 need 2 or 4 adapters to use the system. Medium format camera systems require one adapter to connect the lens to the bellows, and one to connect the bellows to the camera.

Systems based on 35mm camera designs (except for Canon EOS) requires 4 pieces; the APRO & PROLEI adapters plus a lens-system-to-bellows adapter and a bellows-to-camera adapter. The Canon EOS system requires 3 additional pieces, but also has the unique distinction of retaining all aperture communications between the camera and the lens. All of the combinations are listed here as recommended accessories alphabetically by camera system, with the bellows-to-camera adapter first and the lens-to-bellows adapter next.

Thanks to a complete system of adapters, combining different lens and camera systems is entirely possible. Novoflex Focusing Rail CASTEL-M, Macro 1.1 to 5:1 .The CASTEL-M focusing rail has a stylish and unique design aimed at photographers who frequently work at magnifications from 1:1 (life-size) to 5:1. The manual focusing rail is exceptional in its construction and specifically manufactured for the application of focus stacking in a series of progressive magnifications to a maximum of 5:1. The CASTEL-M bridges the gap between high-end electronic rails such as CASTEL MICRO and conventional rail design.

Depth of field is one of the most challenging aspects of macro photography to overcome. As magnification increases, depth of field decreases, especially above 1:1. The diminishing depth of field at reproduction ratios above 1:1 requires extremely accurate and precise camera advancement to create identical distances between the individual images of a typical stacking sequence. Precise overlapping of each image is necessary for the stacking software to create a successful composite photograph.

The CASTEL-M works with a wide range of specialist lenses such as Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro Photo and the LAOWA 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5x Ultra Macro which are frequently used by macro photographers who routinely employ focus stacking in their workflow. It has been specifically designed to assist macro photographers in achieving consistent, predictable results when engaged in this repetitive task and throughout a range of different magnifications.

At the heart of the CASTEL-M is a spindle that drives the sliding camera mount forward with extreme accuracy for each image. It also has practical indexing steps for magnification factors of 2:1; 3:1; 4:1, and 5:1, which are selected via a lever located on the inside of the focus wheel cylinder. Releasing the locking lever on the sliding block disengages it from the spindle and allows the base to be positioned freehand at the starting focus point. Once in place it can be re-engaged securely with the spindle by locking the lever. Progression through the sequence of images is carried out via a single click of the focus wheel, which advances the camera assembly clockwise in precise incremental stops to the focus point of the next image. No need to worry about calculating the step size and precise overlapping of the individual pictures; the rail does this for you automatically. The click stops have been calculated in such a way as to avoid the negative effects of lens diffraction. They have been calibrated for 35mm Full-Frame cameras with attached lenses at an aperture setting of f/4. Cameras with smaller sensor sizes, such as APS-C etc., can be used reliably up to 4:1 and Four Thirds sensors up to 3:1.

When complete control of the camera advancement is required by the photographer, measured repeatable step-sizes can be achieved with the help of the laser-engraved scaling on the focus wheel. When necessary, the sliding camera mount can be advanced arbitrarily without engaging click stops. Complete rotation of the focus wheel equates to the movement of the sliding block and camera assembly by 0.8 millimetres. The scaling enables repeatable steps of 0.01mm feed to be achieved.

For use in product photography, the CASTEL-M can be equipped with the CASTBAL-PRO bellows attachment, transforming it into a fully-fledged technical camera. In this configuration, the stacking steps are performed by moving the bellows rear standard, while the lens standard remains fixed. Utilising this approach means the position of the lens does not change in relation to the subject, which may be important in controlling unwanted reflections especially in jewellery and other similar types of photography. In commercial product photography, objects with a depth greater than 100mm can also be stacked in this way without difficulty, since only the focus is adjusted, in contrast to the usual stacking methods where the entire distance must not be covered. The advantage of this stacking technique in comparison to the classic tilt adjustment according to Scheimpflug is understandable. The problem is well known: as the magnification factor increases – usually above 2:1 to 50:1 – manual focusing with a focusing rack becomes impossible. In addition, automatic functions, such as the internal camera function of focus bracketing, are no longer of much use.

• The consequence is that photographs with such magnification can only be captured with an enormous amount of effort.
  The solution is the CASTEL-MICRO with its specially designed control unit and four different control modes.
• Step and Picture modes are quick and simple to use. In these modes either the step distance or the number of shots can be specified depending on the magnification factor and the aperture of the lens. The software then automatically calculates the number of shots or the step distance required. In addition, pauses between the shots can be taken into consideration, for example for mirror lockup in SLR cameras.
• Continuous mode is available for special applications in which the sliding block is in constant motion so that there is no need for acceleration and stopping distances and any associated pauses. Exposures are then best done with very fast shutter speeds and/or a flash.
• Bellows mode is designed for use with the optional bellows attachment CASTBAL-PRO. Adjustment at the front or back can be selected. The Bellows mode is not only ideal for macro photography but also for those fields of photography requiring much effort, special cameras and tilt and shift lenses. The BALPRO adapter system enables the use of various cameras and lenses. For example, it is possible to integrate high-quality, mechanical lenses used in specialist cameras into a modern stacking workflow.
  The Bellows mode imitates the software control of the autofocus of a lens in order to produce a stack of images with different focus points of one and the same object. The stack of images is then processed by stacking software to produce an image with an astonishing depth of focus.

The control unit is powered by rechargeable batteries (Canon LP-E6 - not included in the scope of delivery! We recommend the use of original Canon batteries only!) and is thus ideal for outdoor applications and fieldwork. For studio work the control unit can be connected to the mains with the supplied AC-adapter.
The CASTEL-MICRO has a maximum travel distance of 100 mm and its smallest repeatable step distance is 0.2µ! The maximum carrying capacity for vertical assembly is 4 kg.

CASTEL-MICRO can be fully integrated into the Novoflex-Q System with tripods, racks, brackets, etc. for complex set-ups. A camera is attached by means of the Q=MOUNT quick release unit, which is ARCA-compatible and can be offset by 90 ° if required. The Novoflex Magic Studio Stand-Studiokit is part of a system that makes macro, copy and product photography easy. It is a 65 cm column with a sliding camera mount. The camera mount has a standard 1/4"-20 thread for mounting a 35mm style or medium format camera, or small video camera.

Novoflex is known as problem-solver for all the Macro- and Repro-photographers out there. With the new MS-MR-STUDIO it lives up to its name. The MS-MR-STUDIOis a small and modular copy-stand and subject holder; in short: a mobile Macro-Repro photo studio. A typical Novoflex-product. The modular photo studio can be used in different configurations, e.g., to turn small things into great objects, to create reproductions up to DIN A4/US-Letter size, or to digitize transparencies and negatives up to 6x6.

The repro column has been sized to duplicate templates up to DIN A4/US-Letter size, using a 35mm full-frame camera equipped with a Nifty Fifty or any other lens having 50 mm focal length. The two lateral legs of the U-shaped base frame can be individually positioned (shifted) by means of the rear toggle levers, e.g., to accommodate the slide- and negative duplicator MS-FILMCOP, the MS30 infinity cove, or the magnetic base plate respectively. MS-FILMCOP comes with exchangeable masks to digitize framed 35mm slides as well as 35mm negative film stripes. Holders for 6x6 and 6x4.5cm film are available separately.

For the reproduction of plane templates, the white plexiglass plate can be replaced by the metal, magnetic base plate MS-REPLA. The magnetic plate is equipped with a raster, which makes positioning of your originals a child's-play. MS-REPLA comes with two scaled (cm and inch) magnetic strips, which aid in positioning curled and/ or rolled originals.

The U-shaped base frame is equipped with a precise laser-engraved scaling to achieve reproducible results. To properly light subjects, transparencies, and negatives the Novoflex MS-REPRO LIGHTs (5600K) can be attached to the 1/4“-20 and 3/8“-16 threads present. Positioning of the lights is made easy by the gooseneck arms each light is equipped with.

The mini macro studio- configuration with the fitted infinity cove makes this the ideal macro- and focus stacking accessory. Want to employ a natural background? Nothing could be easier! Just replace the infinity cove with the plexiglas plate and slightly rotate it. MS-MACRO-REPRO is the perfect addition to the Novoflex modular tripod-system TrioPod and also for all products having ARCA-compatibility.

Novoflex Metal base plate with grid and 2 scaled magnetic strips. Metal base plate for the variable copy-stand MS-MACRO-REPRO. Can be exchanged for the translucent ground plate supplied. The plate has a neutral gray finish, as well as a white grid which is used for the exact positioning of templates. The scope of delivery also includes two 27x2.5 cm long magnetic strips, each of which is printed with a centimeter and inch scale. With the help of the magnetic strips, rolled or curled originals can also be positioned flat and reproduced.
