Black Frost® filters provide a subtle diffusion effect and an overall softness of the image, while still allowing to control shadows and to capture rich blacks. With thousands of carbon particles in dedicated sizes, the filters introduce precise amounts of light diffusion while controlling stray light and flare.
- Reduces contrast for a soft overall image
- Maintains control over flares and shadows
- Retains rich blacks
- Mutes colors
These are primarily styling, or mood modifying filters. Depending on the grade chosen, they subtly enhance a scene without degrading the image quality or black saturation. Black Frost enables cinematographers to capture blacker blacks than are possible with similar types of filters. Black Frost filters are made using a remarkable, new diffusion technology, to achieve a unique image styling that can be applied freely, without fear of having scenes appear "heavy-handed." By solving the problems of excessive light scatter and veiling glare associated with similar filters, Schneider Black Frost filters make possible a higher level of control and convenience.
Application
For unique image styling. Black Frost® creates an almost airbrushed look. A fine black mist flairs highlights, tones down contrast while retaining rich blacks.
This filter is available in strengths of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, and 2. These strengths achieve a subtle filmic type look to a heavy diffusion.
